Mark Of FanBoyFlicks

Mark of FanBoyFlicks is a movie reviewer on YouTube(For those who don't know). He reviews some of the worst movies that have been made and has had some success and loyal subscribers.

Q: You've been reviewing the worst movies ever for some time now, What are your top 5 worst movies you have seen?

A: If I had to choose, My top 5 would be:

1.Samurai Cop

2.Troll 2

3.Fateful Findings

4.Birdemic

5.Death Bed: The Bed That Eats

Q: Is there ever a time when you're watching a movie where you just think, "What am I doing with my life"?

A: Sometimes, until I write a good joke about it, then I’m motivated to watch more.

Q: What are your favorite of the worst movies you have reviewed?

A: Samurai Cop and Troll 2 are easily my favorites. They’re just so entertaining to watch, every scene has something hilarious about it that it just never gets boring.

Q: Have you ever resorted to alcoholism while reviewing a movie just to get through it?

A: No, it doesn’t help with the writing process at all, the worst thing is getting drunk during a viewing because your attention will drift and then you have to go back and watch the bad movie again once you’re sober.

Q: Are there any YouTuber's that kind of inspired you to start reviewing movies or was it just something you wanted to do?

A: I can’t say that I was really inspired by anything which is also kind of why the show has changed over the years. At first it was just something to try and do for fun and see if it was funny, once I started developing the style of humor I wanted to use I became more focused on the kind of show I wanted to produce. If anything, the only thing that I can think of that maybe inspired me to do this was when I used to watch bad movies with my friends and make jokes back in college. That’s when I realized how much fun it could be to watch a bad movie.

Q: Where did you get the name "FanBoyFlicks"?

A: I actually don’t remember how I came up with the name because it was so long ago. When I came up with the name I was thinking about doing a much different show than what it is now. But what I really love is how the name has become pretty ironic which is prefect for the style of comedy I use in the show. I really like using contrast as part of my humor, So one might define a “fanboy” as a really passionate fan who refuses to see any of the flaws in their fandom. Well, I’m a fan of bad movies but that’s because I love pointing out all of their flaws, All I do is point out the flaws, That’s what the entire show is based on.

Also, Almost everything about the show is in contrast to the host. The music is very upbeat and happy, The show features a bright blue background, My avatar is a happy, smiling cartoon version of me. That’s all in contrast to my entire demeanor during the show. The character, Mark, is not happy to be watching these movies. He’s sarcastic, apathetic, & mostly monotone .

Q: You used to do reviews with friends and what not, You've been kind of Lone Wolfing it for a while. Is there a reason why or did your friends move away?

A: As I got older, some of my friends and I just drifted apart. I’m still really good friends with Mat, but again, he has a career of his own now and I realized that it wouldn’t be practical to continue on doing the show the way that it was. I’m also very used to doing things myself, I’m extremely critical of myself and a perfectionist when it comes to my work which is why sometimes it takes me a while to finish a video.

Q: Who are some of your favorite Filmmakers out there living or deceased?

A: To name a few: Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, David Cronenberg, Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson.

Q: Do you ever get noticed in your neighborhood or when you're walking out on the street? Do people ever stop you and say "Hey, I watch your channel"?

A: No, that hasn’t happened to me yet.

Q: Have you been to any events recently? What are some of your favorite events to attend?

A: The last event I went to was FanExpo in Toronto, I usually try to make it out to that every summer. But other than that, I don’t go to much else

Q: Do you have any helpful advice for people trying to start YouTube channels, Weather it be to do movie reviews or game reviews?

A: The best advice I can give is just to make what you would find entertaining. You’re never going to be able to please everyone so just do your own thing.  Also, make sure whatever it is, that you have a passion for it. If you’re just doing it for the money, you’ll lose your interest pretty fast and that will show in whatever it is that you produce.

Q: At just over 66,000 subscribers, Is there anything you would like to say to the people who support your channel?

A: My subscribers are the best. I can tell they really love the show and it’s really nice to see their comments as soon as a video gets posted. I've never had this big of an audience before in my entire life and it’s amazing to see the messages people send me from all over the World. It’s really profound. I know that sometimes it takes me a while to put out a video but it’s because I appreciate the audience so much that I try to make sure each video is as funny as it can be. I feel like I’d be doing a disservice to the fans if I rushed out the videos just for the sake of releasing content. Also, sometimes with my job, it’s very hard for me to get back to all of the messages I get but I’m looking to fix that in the coming months.

I want to give a huge thanks to Mark for making the time to talk with me about a few things! I've been a follower of his Youtube channel for a while now. He is one of the funniest guys out there and I hope we get many more videos to enjoy!
